Women's Basketball Tabbed Third in MAC Preseason Poll

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Central Michigan women’s basketball team is predicted to finish third in the West Division as voted by the league coaches and the Mid-American Conference Media Association, the league office announced on Thursday.
CMU finished 6-23 overall and 2-13 in MAC play during the 2007-08 season. Led by preseason All-MAC choice junior Britni Houghton and a nationally ranked recruiting class, the Chippewas have higher expectations for the second season under head coach Sue Guevara.
Ball State was predicted to win the West Division crown, with Northern Illinois edging CMU for second. Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Toledo round out the bottom three in the division.
Bowling Green is the predicted champion of the East Division, followed by Miami, Ohio, Kent State, Buffalo and Akron. BGSU was also predicted as the tournament champion.
CMU opens its 2008-09 schedule with an exhibition game on Nov. 8 against Marygrove in Rose Arena, before opening the regular season at home against Indiana State on Nov. 15.
