Houghton Named MAC West Player of the Week

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Junior forward Britni Houghton (Lansing, Mich./Waverly HS) was named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Houghton guided the Central Michigan womens’s basketball team to a split in the two-game Buckeye Classic Tournament, earning All-Tournament accolades.

Against Dayton in the opening round, she posted her third 20-point effort of the season, dropping in 21 to go with five boards. She grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds against Boston University in the consolation game for her first career double-double, scoring 18 points.

Houghton leads the MAC in scoring with 19.7 points and is 18th in rebounding at 5.7. She also ranks among the MAC top-10 in steals (10th) and three-point field goal percentage (tied for fourth) and is 12th in minutes played (33.50).

It is the first weekly MAC honor for Houghton in her career, and first for the Chippewas this season.
