Chippewa Duo Places in Pentathlon at Michigan Intercollegiates

ANN ARBOR -- Both of Central Michigan's pentathletes placed during opening day action at the Michigan Intercollegiates on Friday.
Senior Shanna Tamminga placed fifth and sophomore Erika Schroll sixth as CMU picked up three team points.
Host Michigan is tied with Western Michigan for first place after the opening event. Both schools have 10 points.
Michigan's Bettie Wade won the event with 3,968 points. She had or tied for the top performance in all five events.
CMU's Tamminga racked up 3,318 points picking up 874 in the 55m hurdles (8.65), 666 in the high jump (5-0 1/2), 539 in the shot put (33-3 3/4), 592 in the long jump (16-9 3/4) and 647 in the 800m (2:33.68). Her best event was the shot put where she was second.
In her first ever pentathlon, Schroll earned 734 points in the 55m hurdles (9.27), 842 in the high jump (5-6 1/2), 447 in the shot put (28-8 1/4), 538 in the long jump (16-1 3/4) and 667 in the 800m (2:32.09). Schroll tied for the top performance in the high jump.
The rest of the Chippewas begin competition at the Michigan Intercollegiates on Saturday in the U-M Indoor Track Building beginning at 10 a.m.
