McClure Wins Steeplechase at Sea Ray Relays

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. Kelly McClure turned in Central Michigan’s top performance at the Sea Ray Relays by winning the 3000m steeplechase on Saturday.
The University of Tennessee hosted the prestigious meet on Friday and Saturday and 13 Chippewas placed in the top 20 of their individual events.
McClure posted a time of 10:56.80 in the steeplechase to capture the title and Elizabeth Carpenter placed 10th in the event with a time of 11:39.93.
"Our goal heading into the meet was to focus on competing and not get all caught up in times or marks," coach Karen Lutzke said. "I thought we did a nice job competing and not stressing when they had to move events from Friday to Saturday because of the weather."
Amanda Rudert was second in the 10,000m with a time of 38:25.27 while Emily Van Wasshenova was sixth in 40:47.42.
Allison Jakubowski had the top finish in a field event placing eighth in the javelin with a heave of 131-6.
Erika Schroll was 10th in the high jump (5-5) and Shanna Tamminga 10th in the heptathlon (4,553).
Also notching top 20 finishes were Jenaie Edwards (11th, 55.89) in the 400m, Brittany Dixon (12th, 10:42.74) in the 3000m, Jordan Dunn (t-15th, 11.86) in the 100m, Charity Sunderman (16th, 151-10) in the hammer throw, Tempestt Stanford (19th, 11.93) in the 100m and Crystal Stanley (20th, 1:05.44) in the 400m.
