Chippewas Hand Out Postseason Awards

MOUNT PLEASANT -- First-year head coach Sue Guevara and her coaching staff handed out Central Michigan's team awards for the 2007-08 women's basketball season.

Sophomore forward Britni Houghton was given the Chippewa Award, which recognizes the player whose performance on the court lifted her teammates to a higher level.

Senior guard Candace Wilson was named "Most Improved", taking the biggest strides in her game from the start of the season.

Stacey Verhoff earned two accolades, being given the "Heart and Hustle" award as well as the team's academic honor.

Freshman guard Shonda Long made her presence felt in her first year in a CMU uniform, earning the team's defensive player of the year distinction.

Houghton became the first CMU women's basketball player to earn All-Mid-American Conference third team honors, and first player to earn any honor above honorable mention All-MAC since 1997 when Tracy Renken earned second team honors.
