Women's Track Moves Into Fifth

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Five Chippewas placed in events on day two of the Mid-American Conference Championships as Central Michigan moved up to fifth place in the team standings.
Junior Kelly McClure earned All-MAC honors with a runner-up finish in the steeplechase. She ran the 3000m obstacle-laden course in a time of 10:53.17, less than a second behind winner Cassandra Schenck from Akron who clocked 10:52.40.
Libby Carpenter also placed fifth with a time of 11:07.11 giving CMU 12 points in the event.
Shanna Tamminga posted a fifth-place finish in the heptatlon with 4,675 points and Amanda Rudert was sixth in the 10,000m with a time of 36:57.97. Norianna Brown was the top freshman in the shot put with a seventh-place heave of 46-6.75.
Akron holds a commanding lead in the team standings with 96 points compared to second-place Buffalo with 39. The Chippewas sit in fifth with 26 points.
With their performances on Friday, six Chippewas advanced to the finals of their respective events slated for Saturday at Bowling Green's Whittaker Track. The group includes Jordan Dunn (100m), Jenaie Edwards (400m & 800m), Cara Dukes (400m), Danielle Dakroub (1500m), Raeanne Lohner (1500m) and Sarah Squires (1500m).
