Chippewas Enter Last Tune-Up Before MAC Championships

MOUNT PLEASANT -- The Len Paddock Invitational will serve as the final tune-up for the Central Michigan women’s track team before it sets its sights on a Mid-American Conference Championship. The Len Paddock Invitational, hosted by the University of Michigan, will take place on Friday and Saturday in Ann Arbor.
With school coming to an end, the team now has just one focus: the MAC meet.
“I was pleased with how the meet at Toledo went, especially with finals and other end of the year stress,” Lutzke said. “Now all we have to worry about is track, with no other outside influences. The goal now becomes to improve as much as possible over the next two weeks as we prepare for the MAC Championships.”
The meet, featuring mostly Midwestern schools, will serve as a sharpening stone for the Chippewas as they continue to fine-tune their skills. Instead of trying to find new events, competitors have now focused in on select competitions they have excelled in, with the hopes of competing at a high level in next week’s conference championship meet.
“You always want good marks, but if you make that your focus you get lost when trying to compete,” Lutzke said. “Our focus this year is to just compete and let everything else fall into place. The times will take care of themselves if you are competing at a high level.”
The team enters the final few weeks in near perfect health, with no major injuries to speak of.
“We’re getting to where we want to be health wise,” Lutzke said. “We were able to get a few people back last week and hopefully now we can just focus on what we need to do.”
