No. 6 Chippewas Travel to Nebraska for Double Dual

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan's wrestling team returns to action for the first time in three weeks Saturday when it faces Neb.-Kearney and No. 12 Nebraska.
The No. 6 Chippewas (5-0) will meet Kearney, the No. 3-ranked team in Division II, at 10 a.m. before taking on the Cornhuskers at noon. Nebraska will provide free live stats of both matches through huskers.com. Video of both matches will be available through huskers.com's subscription video service, Huskers NSide.
Saturday's duals will be CMU's first competition since sweeping all four matches at Northeast Duals on Nov. 28.
Kearney is led by senior Marty Usman, the No. 1-ranked 174-pounder in Division II. Joey Morrison (fourth, 133 pounds), T.J. Hepburn (sixth, 149 pounds), Taylor May (sixth, 165 pounds) and Derek Ross (eighth, 184 pounds) also are ranked in the top eight nationally.
Saturday's match will be the dual season opener for the Lopers. It also will mark the first meeting all-time between the programs.
Nebraska enters Saturday's matchup 5-2 overall, including 1-2 against ranked opponents. The Huskers defeated No. 11 Wisconsin, 26-17, on Nov. 15, but lost to No. 12 Lehigh, 18-15, on Nov. 28 and No. 5 Minnesota, 28-14, on Dec. 10.
Nebraska leads the all-time series over CMU, 2-0-1. The teams wrestled to a 17-17 tie last season at Rose Center.
Just four Huskers are ranked in the top 20 of their respective weight classes nationally, but three are ranked in the top three: Jordan Burroughs (first, 157 pounds), Stephen Dwyer (third, 174 pounds) and Craig Brester (second, 197 pounds). Tucker Lane is ranked 12th at 285 pounds.
Burroughs has won 44 consecutive matches dating back to the 2008 NCAA Championships. He is the defending national champion at 157 pounds after posting a perfect 35-0 record last season. Brester was the national runner-up at 197 pounds last season.
CMU closes out the calendar year at Midlands Dec. 29-30.
