MOUNT PLEASANT- The Central Michigan Women’s track and field team will travel to Knoxville, Tenn. to compete in the Sea Ray Relays for their third outdoor meet of the season.
The Chippewas will face warmer weather as they head south, something head coach Karen Lutzke is looking forward to.
“It is going to help us a lot to get into some nicer weather,” Lutzke said. “Just to get out of the wind and cold will really benefit our athletes.”
The Maroon and Gold will face multiple schools from around the country at these relays, giving them a chance to compete against teams outside of the Mid-west.
“This is really a great next step for us,” Lutzke said. “We will get to see a lot more teams, and a lot of great competition that we would not normally compete against.”
The non-scoring meet goes from Wednesday-Saturday with various events each day. Tanisha Johnson and Erika Schroll will be the first two Chippewas to compete as they take part in the heptathlon Wednesday.
“We are really looking forward to getting Tanisha and Erika out there on the first day,” Lutzke said. “Hopefully they can do some really great things for us, and start things off right.”
All other Chippewas will begin competition Friday and continue into Saturday.
