Flores Tops Trice at NWCA All-Star Classic

FRESNO, Calif. - American University's Ryan Flores scored a late takedown to defeat Central Michigan's Jarod Trice, 3-1, at the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Classic on Sunday.
The match pitted a pair of heavyweights ranked in the top eight nationally by InterMat. Trice entered the match ranked No. 2 nationally, while Flores was ranked eighth.
After a scoreless first period, Trice chose to begin the second period in the bottom position and scored an escape for a 1-0 lead. Flores evened the score at 1-1 with an escape in the third period, then scored the decisive points on the match's only takedown.
Trice was the fourth different Chippewa to compete at the event and the first since David Bolyard in 2005.
Trice and the Chippewas return to action Saturday when they face North Dakota State, Appalachian State and No. 5 Minnesota at the Minnesota Quad.
