State Farm Scholar-Athlete of the Week - Kaihla Szunko

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Kaihla Szunko of the Central Michigan women's basketball program is this week's State Farm Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
Szunko recorded just the second triple-double in program history to lead CMU to an 82-66 victory over Southeastern Conference opponent Ole Miss in the Chippewas' first game in the new McGuirk Arena. Szunko tallied 21 points, 16 rebounds and a CMU single-game record 10 steals in the win. She made 10-of-15 shots from the floor, and 10 of her 16 rebounds came on the offensive end. Szunko scored 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting as CMU built a 40-36 halftime lead, and six of her school-record 10 steals came in the second half as the Chippewas' lead stretched to as many as 21 points.
Szunko maintains a 3.84 grade-point average as a health fitness major.
Each week during the academic year, one student-athlete is selected as the State Farm Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
