MOUNT PLEASANT -- The second-place Central Michigan women's basketball team looks to cut into a two-game cushion when it faces West Division leading Toledo in the final regular-season women's basketball game at Rose Center. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
CMU fell to UT earlier this year, 74-60, but is riding a nine-game home winning streak, the longest since the 1984-85 season.
Senior night festivities will also take place prior to tipoff, honoring seniors Britni Houghton, Kendra Holman and Heidi Warczinsky.
Live stats and a live audio stream of WMHW-FM 91.5's local broadcast will be available to all fans. Live video will be available to CMU Sports Zone subscribers.
Series History -- Toledo holds a 38-25 edge all-time in the series history between the two MAC West Division rivals. The first meeting came in 1980, and Toledo had won five straight meetings until Central Michigan’s victory at Rose Center on March 7 of last year. The Chippewas are 16-17 all-time against the Rockets in Rose Center, but the Rockets are 7-2 in the last nine Mount Pleasant meetings. Head coach Sue Guevara is 1-4 against UT in her three seasons at CMU.
1,500 Club -- With her 38 points against Eastern Michigan, Britni Houghton became just the fourth player in CMU history to break the 1,500-point barrier. She needs just 18 points to become the second-leading scorer in program history behind only Sue Nissen.
That's a Record -- Britni Houghton broke the schoool’s single-game scoring record with 38 points in a 113-107 double-overtime victory over Eastern Michigan on Feb. 20, 2010. She shot an impressive 16-for-21 from the field, including a three-pointer to tie the game up and force a second overtime.
Stay Perfect -- A win over Toledo on Wednesday would give CMU its first unbeaten season at home against MAC schools since the 1984-85 campaign (19-10, 15-3 MAC), when the Chippewas finished 8-0 at home, a mark they would equal with a win over the Rockets. It would be just the second time in program history the Chippewas would run the table at home against league opponents.
Testing All the Scoreboard Lights -- CMU led the nation a year ago in combined points, averaging 153.3 points per contest. No other program cracked the 150.0 mark. This season, the Chippewas are right back at it, averaging a combined 148.5 points per game.
I Hope You Like Points -- Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan hooked up for one of the all-time greatest games in Mid-American Conference history on Feb. 20, 2010. The Chippewas and Eagles combined for the most points in a MAC game in league history (220) in a 113-107 double-overtime victory for the Maroon and Gold.
20-point Prowess -- The Chippewas have had a player score 20-plus points on 61 occasions in head coach Sue Guevara’s three seasons (86 games). CMU had just 14 such scoring outputs in its previous 114 games.
Building a Winner -- In just her second season, head coach Sue Guevara went 9-7 in MAC play in 2008-09, the first winning league season since 1992-93. With one more league win in 2009-10, Guevara will have posted back-to-back winning league seasons for the first time since a three-year stretch that ended with the 1992-93 season.
Keys to the Game -- Whichever team is able to control the pace of the game will likely come out on top. CMU is the second-best offensive unit in league play, averaging 75.5 points per MAC game, while UT is the second-best defensive unit, allowing just 61.5 points per MAC contest. Control of the glass will also be key, with Toledo boasting the MAC’s second-best rebound margin at +3.8, while CMU is ninth at -2.1.
Back-to-Back -- Britni Houghton was named MAC West Player of the Week on Monday, giving CMU consecutive weeks with the honor. Kaihla Szunko earned the distinction last week.
