Chippewas Complete Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, NC- Several athletes turned in strong times as the Central Michigan track and field program concluded the Raleigh Relays on Saturday.
The sprint relay groups led the way for the women, the 4X100m team finished fifth (46.31) and the 4X200m team had a third place finish (1:38.95) both teams included Britnee Sherevee, Diera Riley, Jordan Dunn and Shanaye Carr. Both times were top two all time performances for CMU’s women’ s team.
"Today we competed at the level that we as staff expect each time we step on the track,” head coach Willie Randolph said. “As a team on a mission to be the best no matter what the competition. The best performance was turned in by Brittnee, Dierra, Jordan and Shanaye in those relays.”
In individual events, Sarah Squires finished 11th in the first section of the 1,500 meter (4:35.36) and Veronica Garcia took 19th in section two (4:49.17) while Tamica Harbour (22nd; 1:04.61) and Alexandra Sisson (23rd; 1:04.80) were neck and neck in the 400m hurdles.
On women’s field events, in the hammer throw Mykal Imbrock finished 16th (160-10) and Whitney Johnson (18th; 157-01). Katie McColly took 22nd in the triple jump with a jump of 36-11 ½.
For the men's field events, Kevin Bacon had a ninth-place finish is the long jump with a solid 23-4 3/4 and Greg Pilling concluded his strong opening weekend by taking 15th in the hammer throw (168-4).
The men's relay teams also had strong performances as both the 4x100m (41.89) and 4x200m (1:26.53) finished ninth.
“We got a lot of things done in preparation for the next couple of weeks when the level of competition picks up even more,” Randolph said. “Mission accomplished as a team.”
Day One Recap
Senior Greg Pilling got his outdoor season started on the right foot with a second-place finish in the discus, highlighting some strong performances by the Central Michigan track and field program on day one of the Raleigh Relays on Friday.
Pilling opened his final outdoor campaign with a toss of 168-0.
Freshman Alex Rose was another strong performer in the throwing events as he took fourth in the discus (167-5). Also highlighting the field events for the men were pole vaulters Mike McGregor and Marcus Breidinger. McGregor's height of 16-0 3/4 was good for third and Breidinger's 15-1 was good for ninth. Andrew Kruskamp began the outdoor season with a sixth-place finish in the high jump (6-6 3/4).
On the track events, Riak Mabil put together a solid debut in the 5,000 meter (15th; 14:39.92), Matt Lutzke took fifth in the 10,000 meter (30:29.94) and Christopher Thomas opened the year with strong time in the 400m (20th; 48.64).
On the women’s side, freshman Kayla Brindley had a strong performance in her first outdoor collegiate meet with a tenthplace finish in the discus with her throw of 136-4, only five inches shy of her personal best.
Raeanne Lohner led the Maroon and Gold on the track as she finished seventh in the 5,000 meter (16:50.01), Stephanie Hurley finished 13th in the 400 meter event (56.59), Holly Anderson also finished 13th in the 10,000 meter (37:08.17) and the 1,600 sprint medley team finished fourth (4:04.60).
