MOUNT PLEASANT- The Central Michigan track and field program will send a Tanisha Johnson and Erika Schroll to the Texas Relays in the middle of the week while the rest of the squad travels to Western Michigan this weekend.
Johnson and Schroll will get their first heptathlon competition of the season in Austin, Texas, as both look to reach some national qualifying marks this week. The combined events portion of the meet takes place on Wednesday and Thursday at the University of Texas.
Both Johnson and Schroll will be competing in the heptathlon and high jump. The meet will host over 5,000 high school, college and professional athletes from around the country.
“This is really a chance for Tanisha and Erika to make some national marks,” head coach Willie Randolph said. “This is a world renowned meet and some great competition.”
The rest of the Chippewas will turn their attention to the Western Michigan Invitational Saturday. The meet will be Central's first scored competition of the outdoor season, the women will face Mid-American Conference foes Bowling Green, Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan while the men will have a dual against Eastern Michigan.
“This will be a good weekend for our athletes to get some good outdoor reps in,” Randolph said. “We'll have a chance to work out some of the last outdoor jitters and get ready for some of our bigger meets within the next couple of weeks.”
Complete results for both meets will be available on cmuchippewas.com.
