Bennett Named Michigan Collegiate Wrestler of the Year

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan redshirt freshman Ben Bennett (Rockford, Mich./Rockford HS) has been selected the Michigan Collegiate Wrestler of the Year by Matside Michigan Live.
The Michigan Collegiate Wrestler of the Year honor is the third major postseason award for Bennett, who also was named the Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year and the CMU wrestling program's Chick Sherwood Award winner as the team's most outstanding wrestler.
Bennett was selected for the honor from a pool of nominations submitted by Matside Michigan Live listeners. He is the first freshman to win the award.
Bennett earned All-America honors with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Championships, becoming just the fourth freshman in program history to be named an All-American. He earned an automatic bid to the national tournament after claiming the MAC title at 174 pounds; Bennett posted a 15-0 technical fall against Kent State's Keith Witt in the conference tournament championship match.
Bennett also placed runner-up at Midlands and finished the season with an overall record of 26-8.
