Szunko Earns Academic All-MAC Honors

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Kaihla Szunko was named an Academic All-Mid-American Conference selection for the second-consecutive year, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Szunko, a 2010 third-team All-MAC selection, finished with the fourth-most steals in a season in CMU history (81) while averaging 12.7 points and 9.4 boards and starting all 30 games in 2009-10. She shot a team-best 56 percent from the floor and blocked a team-best 22 shots on the year.
During MAC action, Szunko shot 59 percent, averaging 13.8 points and 9.9 rebounds per contest.
The health fitness major boasts a 3.85 grade-point average.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
