| | | Scouting the Opponents -- Toledo was selected as the MAC West Division preseason favorite, receiving 40 of the 48 first place votes. The Rockets enter today’s meeting in first place in the West Division, one game ahead of CMU, and riding five-game winning streak. UT has won eight of its last nine and 11 of its last 13. Prime Time Player -- Brandie Baker is averaging 13.8 points and shooting 39 percent from the field overall in 2010-11, but in MAC play her numbers jump to 17.5 points and 55 percent from the field, including 50 percent from the arc (5-for-10). We Play Defense Too -- Central Michigan boasts one of the nation’s most prolific scoring offenses, but it has flexed their defensive muscle of late as well. The Chippewas have held their opponents to 40 percent or less from the field in five of their last six, including all four Mid-American Conference opponents. “Itty Bitty” Impact -- Freshman Kylie Welch , known to her teammates as “Itty Bitty” saw significant minutes for the first time in her collegiate career on Jan. 12, playing 21 minutes against the Eagles. She had seen the floor for just three minutes in CMU’s previous seven contests, but handled the point guard duties and settled into a battle of unbeaten MAC squads, helping the Chippewas defeat the Eagles | |
