MAC Announces Preseason Wrestling Rankings

MOUNT PLEASANT - Three Central Michigan wrestlers are ranked No. 1 in their weight class in the Mid-American Conference coaches' preseason rankings released Wednesday.
Christian Cullinan (133), Scott Mattingly (141) and Ben Bennett (184) are ranked first in their weight class. Both Donnie Corby (149) and Chad Friend (197) are tied for second in their weight class.
The preseason team rankings, which are based on the individual weight class rankings, also were announced Wednesday. The six schools were ranked based on the number of first through fourth-place votes that were earned in the individual voting system. Kent State was tabbed as the favorite to win the Mid-American Conference, with CMU ranked second. Ohio (third), Eastern Michigan (fourth), Buffalo (fifth) and Northern Illinois (sixth) rounded out the poll.
CMU shared the MAC regular season title with Kent State and Ohio in 2011, the Chippewas' 12th MAC title in the last 13 seasons. The Chippewas also won their 10th straight conference tournament championship in 2011.
