Day One Complete at Alex Wilson Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Five members of the Central Michigan track and field program have wrapped up the first day of competition at the Alex Wilson Invitational.
Kevin Mays entered the weekend ranked 15th nationally in the weight throw, but was not able to improve his ranking with a mark of 65-3 on Friday. Mays now waits to learn if his season-best mark of 67-6 1/4, which earned him the MAC indoor championship, will advance him to next week's NCAA Indoor Championships.
Also competing in the weight throw was Ryan McCullough , who threw 61-5.
In the pole vault, Joshua Kettlewell closed the indoor season with a season-best mark of 16-4.
Whitney Johnson and Shanaye Carr represented CMU's women's team during Friday's competition.
Johnson, who was fourth in the weight throw at the MAC Indoor Championships last week, threw 56-9 to place fifth at the Alex Wilson Invitational. Carr, meanwhile, closed out her indoor season with a third-place finish in the long jump. She posted a mark of 19-4 1/4 on her final leap of the season.
Competition at the Alex Wilson Invitational concludes on Saturday with three Chippewas—Renaldo Powell , Jordan Dunn and Brittnee Shreve –scheduled to compete in the sprints.
