Szunko Joins Rare Company with Academic All-MAC Honor

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Kaihla Szunko became the fifth student-athlete in Central Michigan women's basketball history to earn Academic All-Mid-American Conference honors three times in a career, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Szunko, a 2011 second-team All-MAC choice and 2011 second-team Academic All-American, also earned Academic All-MAC honors in each of the previous two seasons.
The health fitness and rehabilitation major, who boasts a 3.83 grade-point average, became the first player in MAC history to finish her career with at least 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 200 steals.
She scored the seventh-most points (482) in CMU history as a senior, grabbed the second-most rebounds (343), hit the fourth-most field goals (195), connected at the eighth-best field goal percentage (55.6 percent) and swiped the fifth-most steals (77).
She finished her career ranked ninth on CMU's all-time scoring list, third in rebounds, third in steals, sixth in blocks, second in field goal percentage and eighth in field goals made.
