MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan women's basketball team presented the Isabella County Emergency Food Pantry/American Red Cross with a $500 check this week to help feed the hungry in Mount Pleasant and the surrounding areas.
This donation was made possible by the Chippewas' third-consecutive NCAA "Pack the House" award. McGuirk Arena hosted 4,982 fans at the Jan. 26 women's basketball game against Buffalo. During the game, the program "Hoops for Hunger" helped collect 42,000 pounds of food, which was donated to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.
Representing women's basketball was head coach Sue Guevara, assistant coaches Kathy McGee and Heather Oesterle and director of basketball operations Ethan Gelfand as they presented the check to Isabella County Emergency Food Pantry's Executive Director Deb Birkam.
