CMU vs. Miami Postgame Notes

The Chippewas will face Bowling Green in the Mid-American Conference semifinals tomorrow at noon, a rematch of last year's semifinal, in which BG won 80-72. The Falcons hold a 6-3 advantage over the Chippewas in the post-season and have won the past three meetings. BG claimed the lone meeting this season, 77-72, in overtime.
The Maroon and Gold have extended their winning streak to six. During that stretch they are averaging 70.3 points per game while hold the opponent to only 55. They are shooting 39.6 percent from the floor and hold a slight advantage rebounding. CMU is also averaging eight fewer turnovers than the other team.
Head coach Sue Guevara has the Chippewas advancing to the semifinals in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the 1988 and 1989 seasons. She is now 6-4 in MAC Tournament action and is only two wins away from career win 200.
CMU is 4-5 all-time at Quicken Loans Arena and 18-26 all-time in the MAC Tournament.
Against Miami, the Chippewas dished out 21 total assists, the second-most this season. Taylor Johnson had a career-high six assists while Jessica Green had five.
The Chippewas recorded 11 blocks against the RedHawks, the most on the season.
CMU's defense held Miami to only 27.9 percent from the floor, which ties its lowest shooting effort this season.
Brandie Baker finished the game against Miami with eight points, making her 20 short of becoming the 20th Chippewa to record 1,000 points. She has also moved into fifth on the all-time career assists chart with 326.
For the second-straight game the CMU offense was led by its three freshmen, Jas'Mine Bracey (21 points), Crystal Bradford (19 points) and Jessica Green (17 points).
The Chippewas made it 13-straight games that they have committed fewer than 20 turnovers (16 against Miami), the longest streak while under Guevara.
In 19 games this season CMU has held its opponent to under 40 percent from the floor (Miami only shot 27.9 percent), making its overall record under Guevara when doing so 60-24.
For the 18th time this season the Maroon and Gold have scored 70 or more points making them 12-6 this year and 60-34 while under Guevara.
Crystal Bradford posted her ninth double-double this season with 19 points and 13 rebounds. She has also done this in back-to-back days, having 17 points and 11 rebounds yesterday against Ohio.
