In the First Meeting...
Central Michigan earned its first win at Savage Arena under head coach Sue Guevara and snapped an 11-game winning streak by the Rockets in the MAC opener. Sophomore Crystal Bradford scored a then career high 27 points and senior Jessica Schroll made her MAC debut by scoring 14 as the Chippewas shot 54.2 percent from the floor for a 73-66 win.
The Wild West
The Chippewas enter Sunday’s contest one game back of Toledo for the MAC West and overall lead. The Rockets have won 11 straight since falling to CMU in the MAC opener, while the Chippewas are 10-2 in conference play. A victory over Toledo would put CMU in the drivers’ seat to earn the No. 1 seed in the MAC Tournament.
Double-Double Dandy
Sophomore Crystal Bradford continues to make a strong case to earn MAC Player of the Year honors as she currently leads all players with 11 double-doubles this season. Bradford has recorded three-straight and has accomplished the feat 22 times in her 57 career games.
One and Only
With her 400th career assist against Miami on Feb. 16, senior Brandie Baker became the first player in program history to score 1,000-plus points, dish out 400-plus assists, pull down 700-plus rebounds and record 150-plus steals.
The Magic Number is 70...
The league leader in scoring with 76.1 points per game, the Chippewas are a perfect 10-0 this season when scoring 70-plus points. Adversely, CMU has allowed just one opponent to score 70-plus in MAC play and is 10-1 when holding opponents to under 70.
...But If We Score 80
The Chippewas are nearly unstoppable when their offense is clicking on all cylinders. Featuring the 14th best scoring offense in the country, CMU is a perfect 7-0 this season when scoring 80-plus and 41-7 overall when accomplishing the feat under Guevara.
Cleaning up the Glass
CMU is averaging 50.5 rebounds per contest over their last four games, helping them take over as the MAC leader in rebounding. Three times the Chippewas have pulled down 50-plus rebounds during the stretch and they are outrebounding their opponents by 13.5 per night over the four games.
Love Pink
Although honorary team member Katie Johns will not be in attendance Sunday, the Chippewas will wear their pink uniforms with “K. Johns” on the back. CMU debuted the unis versus Buffalo on Feb. 10 and will wear them in each of the last two home contests.
The Fastest to 100
With a pair of blocks at Miami, sophomore Crystal Bradford became the fastest player to 100 blocks in her career. Bradford is well on her way to becoming the all-time blocks leader in CMU history as she already ranks third in program history with 100 blocks. Ann Skufca (2003-07) holds the CMU career record at 160.
Single-Season Blocks Record in Sight
Bradford has her eye on the single-season blocks record as well as her 53 blocks this season are already the third best mark. Ann Skufca blocked 62 shots during the 2006-07 season and Bradford has the second best mark with 57 from a year ago.
Downtown DiGuilio
Junior Niki DiGuilio found her shooting touch at Miami, knocking down three treys en route to scoring 13 points versus the RedHawks. DiGuilio has been stuck in fourth on CMU’s all-time three-point field goals list for much of the season, but is now just three threes away from tying Angel Chan for third place with 171.
