Throwers Show Strength at John Jacobs Invitational

Norman, Okla. - The Central Michigan track and field’s throwing squad shined this weekend as the Chippewas placed at least third in every event they competed in at the John Jacobs Invitational at the University of Oklahoma this weekend.
Junior Calvin Jackson, the only male thrower to compete, placed second in the hammer throw with a mark of 180-04. Jackson’s mark automatically qualified him for the 2013 MAC Outdoor Championships.
Freshman Kyleigh Young won her first ever college meet this weekend with a throw of 139-10 in the javelin.
Freshman Devene Brown took third in both the shot put, 47-02.25, and the discus, 160-06. Her mark in the discus qualified her for the Championships as well.
Sophomore Kyla Walworth and senior Kayla Brindley both competed in the shot put and the discus. Walworth placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 39-09.25, and fifth in the discus with a personal-best 150-03. Brindley took fifth in the shot put, 38-07.75, and ninth in the discus, 132-07.
