MUNCIE, Ind. - Jasmine Moses and Madison Oyer scored in the second half Friday as Ball State handed Central Michigan a 2-0 loss in a Mid-American Conference soccer match at the Cardinals' Briner Sports Complex.
It was the third consecutive loss for the Chippewas, who slipped to 2-8-1 overall, 0-3-0 MAC. Ball State is 6-2-2, 2-1-0.
CMU's MAC road trip continues on Sunday afternoon with a match in Oxford, Ohio against Miami, which is 8-2-0, 2-1-0, after a 2-0 win over Toledo on Friday.
Ball State outshot the Chippewas, 17-11, on Friday. CMU held an 8-4 advantage in shots in the second half and had eight corners to Ball State's five for the game.
"The first half we sort of slogged it out, and the second half was better, we created many more opportunities, many more chances but we unfortunately then conceded two goals as well," Central Michigan coach Peter McGahey said. "Unfortunately the hard part is, we created chances (in the second half), but then the harsh reality of conceding that (first) goal to them brought them to life and really demoralized the team."
Sophomore Maddy Bunnell made eight saves in goal for the Chippewas, while Ball State keeper Brooke Dennis had seven.
Emily Cooksey and Jennifer Gassman recorded three shots apiece for the Chippewas.
Miami enters Sunday's matchup having won two straight, both by shutout, and six of its last seven.
"It certainly doesn't get any easier, and we're still running up will and we are going to have to make adjustments as we climb, but that's just what we'll do," McGahey said.
