Fleetwood Leads CMU Wrestlers at Michigan State Open

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Brent Fleetwood went 4-0 to win the 125-pound weight class in the Freshman/Sophomore Division Sunday to lead the Central Michigan wrestling team at the Michigan State Open.
It was the first event of the season for the Chippewas, who go to the Eastern Michigan Duals on Saturday, Nov. 15.
Eighteen Chippewas wrestled in the tournament, which attracted some 500 wrestlers representing 25 colleges and universities. No team scores were kept.
Seven CMU wrestlers placed in the top eight in their respective weight classes.
For the Chippewas in the Open Division, Tyler Keselring was fourth at 133, and Christian Brucki was eighth at 184.
For the Chippewas in the Freshman/Sophomore Division, Justin Oliver was third at 149; Tevin Machart was fourth at 157; Cody LeCount was fifth at 141; and Jordan Atienza was sixth at 165.
Fleetwood, a freshman, won, 2-1, in the tie-breaker over Mitch Rogaliner of Michigan State in the Freshman/Sophomore 125 championship match.
Fleetwood opened with a 6-3 win over Jake Bellis of Harper (Ill.) College, then defeated Alijah Jeffrey of Northern Illinois, 5-0, in the quarterfinals. He topped Jonathan Marmolejo of Purdue, 3-0, in a semifinal match.
Keselring, a senior, finished 3-2 on the day in the Open 133, falling to Javier Gasca of Michigan State, 5-4, in the third-place match.
Keselring opened with a 4-0 win over Travis Salyer of Tiffin (Ohio), then defeated Anthony Ayers of Notre Dame (Ohio) on a 13-2 major decision. Keselring topped Jordan Northrup of Northern Illinois, 5-3, in the quarterfinals before falling in the semifinals to Zane Richards of Illinois, 4-3.
Brucki, a redshirt freshman, defeated LJ Grayson of Indiana Tech, 6-3, in his opening match in the Open 184 Division.
Brucki fell to John Rizgallah of Michigan State, 4-0, in the quarterfinals, then topped Mike Woulfe of Navy, 3-1. He then dropped a 6-5 decision to Cory Campbell of Kent State in the consolation bracket semifinals. Brucki finished 2-2 on the day.
Oliver, a freshman, took a 14-4 major decision in the third-place match in the Freshman/Sophomore 149 Division over Steve Bleise of Northern Illinois to finish 4-1 in the tournament.
Oliver opened the day with back-to-back technical falls, the first 16-1 over Thomas Garty of Indiana Tech, the second 15-0 over Sean Dulom of Harper. Oliver defeated Michigan State's Josh Pennell, 9-2, in the quarterfinals, then fell to Alec Pantaleo of Michigan on a 5-3 sudden victory.
Machart, a freshman, opened with a 4-2 sudden victory over Chase Hack of Indiana Tech, then defeated Thomas Williams of Ohio, 6-0.
In the quarterfinals, Machart took a 12-0 major decision over Matthew Lindsey of St. Catherine College. Machart then fell on a 17-3 major decision to Ohio State's Micah Jordan in the semifinals, and dropped a 12-10 decision to Luke Blanton of Indiana in the third-place match. Machart finished 3-2 in the tournament.
LaCount went 6-1 at 141 in the Freshman/Sophomore Division. He opened with a 13-0 major decision over Derek Krajewski of Finger Lakes (N.Y.) Wrestling Club, then topped Taylor French of Navy, 4-2.
LaCount followed with pin in 3 minutes, 28 seconds over Sean Brown of Indiana, then dropped a 5-3 decision to Nick Boggs of Lake Erie (Ohio) College.
LaCount came back to take a 3-2 win over Zachary Hall of Michigan, then downed Chance Driscoll of Kent State, 6-2, in the consolation semifinals. LaCount scored a 4-2 sudden-victory win over Noah Forrider of Ohio in the fifth-place match.
Atienza, a freshman, went 4-2 at 165 in the Freshman/Sophomore Division.
He opened with a 6-1 win over Jacob Johnson of Indiana Tech, then took a 15-2 major decision from Samuel Thomas of Indiana.
Atienza fell to Kent State's Jerald Spohn, 8-6, in a quarterfinal match, then rebounded with a pin in 1:18 of Purdue's Peter Andreotti in the consolation semifinals.
Bryce Martin of Indiana defeated Atienza, 9-8, in the fifth-place match.
