Chippewas Add 12 to Mat Mix

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- Central Michigan wrestling coach Tom Borrellihas announced his 2014 recruiting class.
"The biggest thing we're trying to do is add some depth the program and quality workout partners," said Borrelli, who is entering his 23rd season as the CMU coach. "We'll see how these guys develop."
Among the 12 student-athletes set to join the program beginning with the 2014-15 season is Brent Fleetwood, who in February became just the 10th wrestler to win four Delaware state high school titles.
Fleetwood, projected to wrestle at 125 pounds at CMU, finished a sensational 160-18 in his prep career at Smyrna High School, and he twice earned All-America honors in the Super 32 Challenge and the Dapper Dan Wrestling Classic, two events that comprise some of the best high school wrestlers in the nation.
In 2012, Fleetwood was first in the Beast of the East tournament, was the National High School Coaches Association Sophomore National Champion, and won the USA Wrestling Cadet Freestyle National Championship. Among his 2013 highlights was a runner-up finish in the Beast of the East.
As high school wrestlers, Borrelli's 2014 recruiting class captured a combined 13 individual high school state championships, more than 2,000 prep victories, and accumulated a sterling 87.2 win percentage.
The remainder of the class (projected college weight class in parenthesis):
• Jonathan Goetz (174). Finished 144-38 at West Bend (Wis.) High School and was the Wisconsin Division 1 state runner-up at 170 pounds in 2014. He placed fifth at the Cliff Keen Preseason Nationals at the University of Northern Iowa.
• Jordan Atienza (165). Rolled up 223 wins against 19 losses at Franklin High School in Livonia, Mich., a win total that ranks among the top 20 in Michigan high school history. He was the Division 1 high school state champion in 2014 at 160 pounds, and runner-up at 152 in 2013. He went a combined 122-2 in final two years of high school.
• Tyrus Kemp (197). Closed his prep career at Ephrata (Wash.) High School with a second consecutive Class 2A state championship at 195 pounds after placing third in the state at 195 as a sophomore. He compiled a 120-29 career high school record, and placed fifth at the National High School Coaches Association Senior Nationals.
• Carter Ballinger (133). Became Jonesville's first individual state champion in 40 years when he won the 130-pound Division 4 title in the Michigan High School Athletic Association finals. Was a four-time state medalist, and finished his prep career 170-18 including a 47-1 slate as a senior.
• Collin Mitchell (125). Placed eighth at 120 pounds in New Jersey state finals, wrapping up prep career at Eastern Regional High School in Berlin, N.J., with 110-23 career mark.
• Justin Oliver (149). Went 172-5 during standout career at Davison High School, winning Division 1 Michigan state titles in 2011-12, placing third in 2013, and finishing runner-up in 2014.
• Miguel Silva (125). Compiled a 147-27 career mark at Plainfield South High School, and was the Illinois Class 3A state runner-up in 2013 (106 pounds) and in 2014 (113).
• Kyle Noonan (125). Recorded a 155-29 career slate at Stoney Creek High School in Rochester Hills, Mich. He was the Division 1 state runner-up at 125 pounds in 2014 after placing fifth in the state meet at 112 in 2013.
• Tevin Machart (157). Amassed a 187-35 career mark at Henry Ford II High School in Sterling Heights, Mich., and placed fourth (140 pounds) in the Division 1 state meet as a senior, fifth (135) as a junior, and sixth (130) as a sophomore.
• Cody LeCount (141). Won 183 matches against just two losses at Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis. He captured Indiana state championships in 2013-14 and was a state runner-up in 2012. He was named Indianapolis Star Wrestler of the Year in 2014.
• Ryan Jankowski (184). Finished 107-29 in prep career at St. Joseph High School in South Bend, Ind. Placed sixth in 2014 Indiana all-class state finals.
