ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Providence's attack proved too much to handle for Central Michigan on Sunday, as the Friars handed the Chippewas a 5-1 non-league setback at Michigan's Ocker Field.
The loss came two days after CMU notched its first victory of the season, 2-1 over Virginia Commonwealth. The Chippewas are 1-5 with their next four games on the road, including three in California where they will face Pacific, Stanford and UC Davis.
CMU opens Mid-American Conference play on Sept. 27 at Ball State. The Chippewas' next home game is Oct. 5 against MAC foe Longwood.
Megan Hamilton scored two goals to lead Providence (3-3) on Sunday. Her first came at the 10-minute, 7-second mark.
Junior Kaysie Gregory tied it just over four minutes later with her first goal of the season as she re-directed a Cayleigh Immelman shot past Providence goalkeeper Deidra Clymer. It was the first assist of the season for Immelman.
Less than four minutes later, Steph Guglielmo put the Friars ahead for good when she scored off a spin-and-shoot from close range in front of CMU goalie Sadie Lynn Reynolds.
Hamilton scored in the first two minutes of the second half and Daniella Bernasconi and Emma Mackie later talied for the Friars, who outshot CMU, 23-12, and finished with eight corners to CMU's six.
Reynolds made seven saves.
