Chippewas Take Down Southern Illinois Edwardsville

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Central Michigan was victorious in seven of the 10 weight classes Friday as the Chippewas earned a 26-9 non-conference dual meet win over Southern Illinois Edwardsville.
The win improved the Chippewas record to 5-4, and extended their win streak to four. The Chippewas will wrestle third-ranked Missouri in a Mid-American Conference match on Saturday afternoon.
"We weren't real sharp tonight, or at least as sharp as we should have been," CMU coach Tom Borrelli said. "I kind of figured that might be the case with guys looking ahead to Missouri."
Two wrestlers were able to get bonus points for the Chippewas. Senior Tyler Keselring (133 pounds) and Colin Hefernan (149) both won by major decision, Keselring 11-0 and Heffernan 14-3.
"Both Heffernan and Keselring wrestled well for us tonight," Borrelli said. "They were able to get bonus points for us, which will be important going forward."
The Chippewas were also able to squeak out four hard-fought wins by two points or less from Zach Horan (141) 3-2, Malcolm Martin (157) 4-2, Jordan Wohlfert (165) 7-5 and Austin Severn (197) 6-4.
The Chippewas are 3-0 in MAC duals. Missouri is 13-0, 3-0 MAC. Eight Tigers are ranked nationally.
"We have a quick turnaround tomorrow," Borrelli said. "Missouri is one of our biggest challenges of the year and our guys have to be tough."
