MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan's Crystal Bradford has been named to The John R. Wooden Award Women's Midseason Top 20.
Those 20 players are the front-runners for college basketball's most prestigious individual honor. The list is chosen by a poll of national women's college basketball media members.
Bradford, the only player from a Mid-American Conference school among the top 20, joins an elite list that includes players from the likes of Connecticut, South Carolina, Tennessee, California, Notre Dame, Stanford and Baylor.
Bradford, a senior and the reigning MAC player of the year, leads the MAC in scoring (20.3 points per game), rebounding (9.1) and steals (2.3), and ranks fifth in assists (3.7).
The Wooden Award ceremony is scheduled for the weekend of April 10-12. The Wooden Award All-American Team, consisting of the nation's top five players, will be announced the week of the Final Four.
Created in 1976, the John R. Wooden Award is the most prestigious individual honor in college basketball. It is bestowed upon the nation's best player at an institution of higher education who has proven to his or her university that he or she is making progress toward graduation and maintaining a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA.
Previous winners include such notables as Larry Bird ('79), Michael Jordan ('84), Tim Duncan ('97), Candace Parker ('07 and '08), Kevin Durant ('09) and Maya Moore ('09).
