MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. â€" The Central Michigan gymnastics team finished 19th nationally and 11 team members earned Scholastic All-American honors from the National Association of College Gymnastics Coaches for Women.
It marks the second consecutive year that CMU has had 11 honorees, which is the second most in school history. The Chippewas had 13 in 2011.
Those Chippewas who earned Scholastic All-American are freshman Bryttany Kaplan, 3.92 grade point average; sophomore Caroline Fitzpatrick, 3.51; freshman Courtney Campbell, 3.72; senior Halle Moraw, 3.80; senior Kylie Fagan, 3.67; junior Megan Lamphere, 3.71; freshman Miranda Wieczorek, 3.53; senior Preslee Harrald, 3.71; sophomore Shaila Segal, 3.65; junior Taylor Bolender, 3.54; and senior Taylor Noonan, 3.79.
It marks the fourth consecutive year that Fagan and Noonan have earned the academic distinction from the NACGCW. Fitzpatrick, Moraw, Harrald and Segal were also honored for the second consecutive year, and it marks the second time that Lamphere, a Scholastic All-American in 2013, has received the distinction.
"We are extremely pleased we had so many nationally recognized student-athletes," CMU coach Jerry Reighard said. "Our student-athletes work very hard in the gym and to take that and combine it with what they accomplish in the classroom to maintain such high GPA marks shows me they are going to be very successful in their futures."
To receive the award, an individual must have earned a cumulative or year-long GPA of 3.5 or higher. In total, 139 Central Michigan gymnasts named Scholastic All-America since 1991.
