KENT, Ohio. — The Central Michigan Volleyball team dropped a three-setter to Kent State Saturday in a Mid-American Conference matchup at the Rockets' Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center.
CMU fell, 27-25, 25-18, 25-18, to slip to 8-10 overall with a 2-4 mark in league play. Kent State is 10-9, 3-3.
"Well I thought we were real competitive in set one, but we let Kent State capitalize on some things and it got away from us late," CMU coach Mike Gawlik said. "A lot of things started affect us throughout the match and we got a little overwhelmed."
The Chippewas, who edged Eastern Michigan in five sets at home on Thursday, have now been swept eight times this season, three of them coming in conference play.
"Successful teams are able to change the momentum from set to set," Gawlik said. "We need to do a better job of separating our sets after a loss and not let the same things that hurt us in set one affect us throughout the rest of the match."
The Chippewas finished the game with a .125 hitting percentage. The Golden Flashes finished at .223.
CMU committed 24 attack errors in the game compared to 13 by KSU.
Junior outside hitter Jordan Bueter led the Central Michigan attack with 13 kills. Paige Carey added nine and led the team with a .312 hitting percentage.
Senior setter Kathia Sanchez led CMU with 23 assists and 11 digs in the loss.
Kelsey Bittinger led Kent State with 15 kills.
The Chippewas play host to Miami (Ohio) (13-4, 5-0) in a MAC matchup in McGuirk Arena on Friday, Oct. 14.
The RedHawks are the top team in the MAC East and have won 12 matches in a row.
"Miami is a real tough team, one of the best in our conference," Gawlik said. "We really need to take this week to regroup, get better and sew up some areas of our game so we're not as vulnerable."
