EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Central Michigan field hockey team was outshot, 29-5, Thursday in dropping a 7-1 non-league game to Michigan State at the Spartans' Ralph Young Field.
The Chippewas (0-3) play Quinnipiac on Saturday (3 p.m.) in their home opener. The Bobcats are 0-2 after home losses last weekend to Boston College, 2-0; and to UMass Lowell, 3-2.
Michigan State (2-1) held a 12-5 edge in penalty corners on the Chippewas. The Spartans led at halftime, 4-1.
CMU sophomore Grace Forthaus scored her first career goal. It came in the 23rd minute off a Haley Bova assist.
Freshman Abigail Ebersole saw her first collegiate action in goal for the Chippewas. She was credited with five saves.
