MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Micaela Kelly, a standout guard from Detroit, has transferred to Central Michigan and will join coach Sue Guevara's Chippewas women's basketball ateam this fall.
Kelly was a First-Team All-Stater as a senior in 2016, when she led Detroit Martin Luther King to the Class A state championship game. She scored 34 points in the Crusaders' 67-65 loss to Warren Cousino in the final.
Kelly comes to CMU from DePaul.
"I'm really happy that she is with us," said Guevara, who led the Chippewas to a 22-11 finish, the Mid-American Conference West title, a berth in the league tournament title game, and a WNIT berth last season. "We recruited her a couple years ago and it didn't go our way, but you never know how things are going to work out in recruiting and we're very fortunate to have her join our program.
"She's is a very quick, strong, dynamic guard. She's got good range and she can stretch the defense and get to the basket. She brings some quickness and explosiveness with her ability to get to the basket off the bounce."
