Chippewas Square Off With Old Dominion on Friday

• The Chippewas split two duals last weekend. They beat Michigan State, 23-12, in a nonconference meet, and fell to Missouri, 24-8, in a Mid-American Conference dual.
• CMU is ranked 17th this week in the National Wrestling Coaches Association/USA Today poll.
• Four CMU wrestlers are ranked this week by InterMat. Sophomore Justin Oliver (149 pounds) is sixth, junior Colin Heffernan (157) is seventh, junior Jordan Ellingwood (184) is 16th, and senior Austin Severn is 18th.
• Oliver is also ranked sixth by Amateur Wrestling News, while Heffernan is eighth and Ellingwood is 17th.
• CMU junior CJ Brucki won both of his matches last week against Michigan State and against Missouri, improving to 20-5. He shares the team lead in victories with Oliver (20-4) and Heffernan (20-5). Oliver leads the Chippewas with nine falls, while Brucki, Mason Smith (141) and Brent Fleetwood (125) have recorded five apiece.
• Three Old Dominion wrestlers are ranked by InterMat. Seldon Wright (165) is 19th, Jack Dechow (184) is ninth, and Kevin Beazley (197) is 14th. Dechow, a senior, is a three-time NCAA Championships qualifier.
• Two anticipated matches in Friday's dual will feature ranked wrestlers going head-to-head, with Ellingwood taking on Dechow at 184, and Severn squaring off with Beazley at 197.
• Ellingwood defeated Dechow, 7-3, last March in the title bout at 184 in the Mid-American Conference Championships. Dechow had defeated Ellingwood, 4-3, in a dual meet earlier in the 2015-16 season.
Next for CMU: The Chippewas welcome Northern Illinois (5-5, 1-3 MAC) for a league dual on Sunday (2 p.m.) at McGuirk Arena. The Huskies are scheduled to wrestle a MAC dual on Friday at Kent State.
