OXFORD, Ohio - The Central Michigan field hockey team dropped a Mid-American Conference game, 4-0, to Miami (Ohio) on Friday at the Miami Field Hockey Complex.
The Chippewas (0-16, 0-5 MAC) are scheduled to play host to Michigan in a nonconference matchup on Tuesday (4 p.m.). CMU will play its final game of the season at home against MAC foe Ball State on Oct. 27.
"We're going to get to the drawing board," CMU coach Molly Pelowski said. "We're looking to try to play the best we can against Michigan and use it to get prepared for Ball State."
Miami, which clinched a share of the league championship with the win, scored three first-half goals, all by Paula Portugal. The Chippewas turned up the defense in the second half, but Alexis Nugent was able to swipe a fourth with an assist by Allie Grace Joyner.
"Miami is physical and I thought we responded in the second half to match that physical intensity," Pelowski said. "We had more confidence and that's what really contributed. We were able to step up the physical presence and work hard."
Chippewa goalkeeper Lily Amadio had eight saves while Maddie Passarella recorded four for the RedHawks.
Emily Barber had three shots for CMU.
"I thought we fought very well for 70 minutes," Pelowski said. "I know we didn't get the outcome, but the scoreboard doesn't the reflect the effort and hard work."
