MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Former Central Michigan point guard Rayshawn Simmons has signed a contract to play professional basketball for Zalakerámia-ZTE KK, a Hungary-A Division team located in the city of Zalaegerszeg.
"I am really excited about the opportunity to be a part of such a great program that has tradition and great fans," said Simmons. "This gives me a chance to prove myself on an elevated scale where it will only lead to me taking steps forward as a person and as a player."
Zalakerámia-ZTE finished third in the Hungarian top division last season, losing in the postseason in the semi-finals.
Simmons has spent the previous two summers with the Washington Wizards' Summer League team and played professionally last season with Oril Prostejov of the Czech Republic National Basketball league.
A two-time team captain, Simmons averaged 8.7 points, 3.8 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game in three seasons for the Chippewas. He started 65 consecutive games as a junior and senior.
In his senior season, Simmons totaled a team-high 165 assists, which ranks tied for sixth on CMU's single season list. He also ranked third on the team in scoring (12.1 ppg) and third in the MAC in assists per game (5.0).
Simmons, who helped guide the Chippewas to back-to-back MAC West Division titles, finished his career No. 8 on the CMU assists list with 330.
