LORETTO, Pa. - St. Francis (Pa.) did all the scoring in the second half Friday in handing Central Michigan a 4-0 loss in the field hockey season opener.
The Chippewas (0-1) conclude their season-opening weekend road trip on Sunday (noon) at Lock Haven.
St. Francis (1-0) broke the ice less than two minutes into the second half on a goal by Brea Seabrook. Less than three minutes later, Tyler Massage scored on a Seabrook assist to make it 2-0.
"We got down a goal and we answered right back with an opportunity in their end," said third-year CMU coach Molly Pelowski, whose team finished with a 14-5 disadvantage in shots. "The energy from our group was apparent from the start. I felt like we dominated in the quality of our possessions even though the scoresheet will show that we were outshot.
"We entered halftime with a very calm and confident demeanor. There were some really good things that we did today, and there were things that we need to execute better. We left with a bitter-sweet taste in our mouths. Unfortunately we didn't get the win. Our eyes are on Lock Haven now and we're moving forward."
CMU goalkeeper Lily Amado made six saves and Emily Barber recorded two shots to lead the Chippewa offense.
