LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Despite holding a 2-1 advantage for the majority of the second half, the Central Michigan field hockey team dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to Lock Haven on Sunday.
The Chippewas slipped to 0-2 on the season and will look to pick up their first win on Friday (3 p.m.) as they face Vermont (1-1) at Michigan State.
"We saw a lot of good things happen this weekend," CMU coach Molly Pelowski said. "I thought our defense is doing very well, so we'll continue to work on our team defense and offense. We scored two goals today, which I'm very happy with. We're just going to keep building from here."
Alli Huddleson and Jasmine Banks scored for CMU, which took a 2-1 lead on Banks' goal which came on a penalty shot with more than 12 minutes remaining in the first half.
Tamia Roach scored with just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation time to tie the game, 2-2, then Alyscia Smith scored less than a minute into the extra session on a direct shot off a penalty corner.
Banks and Addy Marshall each picked up an assist for the Chippewas. Lily Amadio went the distance in goal for CMU, recording seven saves. Paige Stuppy had three saves for Lock Haven (2-0), which finished with an 18-5 advantage in shots.
"I was proud of our fight and what we did," Pelowski said. "They had a lot of speed going into overtime - we knew that. They were able to execute a quick corner off the draw, so it was unfortunate how quickly it ended in overtime, but overall we saw a lot of improvements to our game. I'm very happy with our process."
