EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Central Michigan field hockey team dropped a 3-0 nonconference decision to Vermont at Michigan State's Ralph Young Field on Friday.
The Chippewas, 0-3, will look to pick up their first win of the season against No. 21 American on Sunday (1:30 p.m.) at Ralph Young Field. The Eagles are 2-1 after a 1-0 victory over Michigan State on Friday.
"We have to prepare better and practice for the intensity that comes with match time," CMU coach Molly Pelowski said. "Tomorrow we're going to make adjustments for American and execute, but this time it's going to start between our ears."
Vermont swiped a quick lead against CMU when Lauren Tucker scored her first goal of the season just a minute and a half. Into the game. She was assisted by Olivia Hurd and Carla Godsman.
The Catamounts posted two more goals before the 16-minute mark, but the Chippewas were able to avoid any more damage for the rest of the match. However, CMU couldn't capitalize offensively and the teams played even.
"We didn't play our strongest first half," Pelowski said. "I was happy with the adjustments that we made to produce more in the second half, which really has to do with our mentality coming into competition. We focused on being confidant and playing confident. We trusted each other and that's how we'll play our best. We are a good team, we just have to start executing like we know we are."
Lily Amadio went the distance in goal for Central Michigan, recording five saves.
