RICHMOND, Va. - The Central Michigan field hockey team dropped a 2-0 nonconference decision to VCU on Sunday at the Rams' Cary Street Field.
The Chippewas (0-9) are scheduled to return to Mid-American Conference action when they play host to Ohio on Saturday (1 p.m.). The Bobcats are 2-8, 0-2 MAC.
"Heading into this match, I thought we were equally matched with VCU," CMU coach Molly Pelowski said. "We needed to make more attacking opportunities and overall we just need to really trust the process."
Spencer Tossone put the first goal on the board for VCU at the 18:43 mark. She was assisted by Emily McNamara. Lauren Kaup added an insurance goal at 43:59.
Lily Amadio had three saves starting in goal for CMU. Abigal Ebersole took over after 23 minutes and made 10.
"Abby did a great job coming off the bench," Pelwoski said. "Her and Lily are both really good goalkeepers. We're in a luxury position with that. I was happy she could anchor our defense today."
VCU goalkeeper Chessa Kownurko had two saves.
The Rams outshot the Chippewas 23-3.
