MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Central Michigan field hockey team play its final regular-season game on Friday (3 p.m.) when it entertains Ball State in a Mid-American Conference game at the CMU Field Hockey Complex.
Â
RECORDS
The Chippewas are 1-15, 0-5 MAC; the Cardinals are 2-12, 2-2.
Â
SENIOR DAY
The Chippewas will celebrate Senior Day on Friday, and honor their five seniors: Lily Amadio, Anna Forry, Kady Gurtis, Kayla McClure and Leah Umberger.
Â
COMING TO AN END
Amadio, the Chippewas' goalkeeper, said her time with the CMU field hockey program has been a roller-coaster ride.
Â
"We've had a lot of ups and downs, but it's definitely been worth it," she said. "We love being on the team. We love this team and we love CMU."
Â
McClure said the memories go far beyond mere wins and loss.
Â
"I met some of the greatest people on this team," she said. "I just love everybody (on the team) and they're going to be my best friends forever so that's awesome."
Â
SAME APPROACH
While it is the final time they will play a game on the CMU Field Hockey turf, both McClure and Amadio said they will approach as they have all the others throughout their respective careers.
Â
"Both Amadio and I play every game like it's our last game, so it feels like it's going to be the same thing," McClure said. "We're going to go in there and we're going to play our hearts out and hopefully get the outcome that you want.
Â
Said Amadio: "Once you get to your fifth year, you're almost on borrowed time so you're playing every game like it's your last. This game is definitely something special and our team has built up a lot of excitement."
Â
EYEING VICTORY
CMU coach Catherine Ostoich said a win will not only be a great way for the members of the senior class to end it at home, but it would give the Chippewas confidence and a shot of momentum as they head into the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
Â
"The players have really worked hard so a win, especially on Senior Day, would mean a lot to these seniors because they have done a lot for our team the last couple of years," she said. "It would mean the world to them."
Â
NEXT
The MAC Tournament begins on Wednesday, Oct. 31, and will be played in Oxford, Ohio and hosted by Miami.
