Chippewas head to Virginia for Cavalier Classic
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- For the first time this season, the Central Michigan women's basketball team will play away from McGuirk Arena.
The Chippewas (3–1) will partake in the Cavalier Classic in Charlottesville, Va. CMU faces host Virginia (2-2) on Saturday (2 p.m.) and then will take on Chattanooga (3-2) on Sunday (1 p.m.).
EARLY SEASON TESTS
Following Wednesday's 75-68 victory over UCF, CMU coach Sue Guevara was asked about the team's tough early season schedule.
She said the competition prepares CMU for its Mid-American Conference schedule and for March while having players earn experience in big moments.
"There's no substitute for experience," Guevara said. "I can't make my freshmen and sophomores (play like) seniors, but I can put them in situations where they better grow up really fast."
LEADERS
Four Chippewas are averaging at least 10 points per game.
Senior Presley Hudson leads CMU with 26.3 points, while senior Reyna Frost averages 19.3 points and a team-high 11.3 rebounds.
Hudson ranks third in the nation in scoring, and the Chippewas rank 13th nationally at 89.5 points per game.
Sophomore Micaela Kelly averages 16 points per contest, while freshman Jahari Smith averages 12 points and six rebounds through her first four collegiate games.
RANKINGS
The Chippewas are ranked sixth in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 poll.

The Cavaliers are holding opponents to 64.8 points, but only average 58.5 points a game, which is 283rd in the nation. Dominique Toussaint leads UVA with 13.3 points per game. Felicia Aiyeotan averages 9.8 rebounds per game.
