Six CMU student-athletes named a Distinguished Scholar Athlete by Mid-American Conference
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Central Michigan student-athletes maintained a remarkably high standard in the classroom during the just-completed fall semester.
Six Chippewas were named a Mid-American Conference Distinguished Scholar Athlete by the faculty athletics representative from each of the league's 12 member institutions.
The CMU student-athletes honored are Lily Amadio and Georgina Minta of the field hockey team, Morgan Britain of the soccer team, Meg Kern of the volleyball team, and football team members Luke Idoni and Mitch Stanitzek.
That group highlighted another outstanding semester of academic success among Chippewa student-athletes.
• CMU's student-athletes posted a combined grade point average of 3.139 during the fall semester, marking the 40th consecutive semester that Chippewa student-athletes have, as a group, finished at 3.00 or higher. The overall cumulative GPA of Chippewa student-athletes stands at 3.209.
• Thirty Chippewa student-athletes earned a perfect 4.00 GPA for the semester and, as a result, will be named to the President's Lists; another 172 CMU student-athletes finished the semester with a GPA of 3.50 or higher, earning a spot on the Dean's List; and 283 CMU student-athletes earned a GPA of 3.00 or higher for the semester.
• The number of CMU student-athletes maintaining a cumulative 3.50 GPA stands at 158.
"These numbers speak to the high quality student-athlete that we have here at Central Michigan University," said Zyzlewski Family Associate Vice President/Director of Athletics Michael Alford. "Our student-athletes are every bit as dedicated to their academic endeavors and successes as they are to their athletic pursuits. It's a credit to each and every one of them that they truly are students first and foremost and they are committed to the goal of being the very best that they can be both in the classroom and in the athletic arena."
"Our student-athletes truly epitomize the meaning of a 'student' and an 'athlete,'" said Tera Albrecht, Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Services. "Their abilities to excel in the classroom, in their chosen studies, and in their sport are testaments to their determination to succeed in all avenues. Our Student-Athlete Services staff, coaches and student-athletes should all be commended for their hard work dedication this semester."
"Year after year, CMU student-athletes lead the MAC and NCAA Division I programs in their academic achievements," Faculty Athletics Representative Kevin Love said. "We have created a culture which at its core requires a high level of performance in academic and athletic performance. Our coaches embrace this and clearly communicate it to their student-athletes and to their recruits. Our student-athletes are champions on the court and field and in the classroom."
