
Baseball Drops Spring Trip Finale

TAMPA, Fla. - Carson Ragsdale hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to break a 5-5 tie as South Florida defeated Central Michigan, 10-6, in a nonconference baseball game on Sunday at USF Baseball Stadium.
It was the finale of a three-game series between the Chippewas and Bulls, and it was CMU's final game on its Spring Break trip.
CMU (2-13-1) is scheduled to face Lawrence Tech on Tuesday (3:05 p.m.) at Theunissen Stadium in its home opener. USF improved to 10-6.
ON THE MOUND
Jake Raether (0-1), the third of six CMU pitchers, took the loss. Zach Kohn started for the Chippewas. Cameron Brown, Brandon Reed, Logan Buczkowski and Tyler Brown each pitched in relief.
Kevin King (3-1) picked up the victory in relief of USF starter Alec Wisely.
AT THE PLATE
The Chippewas outhit the Bulls, 14-13. The 14 hits was a season high. CMU stranded nine base runners.
Freshman Zavier Warren had a career-high three hits to lead the Chippewas. Jason Sullivan singled and doubled, and Griffin Lockwood-Powell, Zach Heeke and Zach Gilles added two hits apiece.
Sullivan picked up two RBI, bringing his season total to a team-best 11.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chippewas scratched out a run in the top of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. Gilles led off the inning with a single, stole second, and went to third on a throwing error. He scored on a Heeke single.
In the bottom of the frame, the Bulls put two on with a walk and a single and then Ragsdale, a pinch hitter, homered to right to put USF ahead for good.
