
Baseball Drops Opener In Florida

DeLAND, Fla. - The Central Michigan baseball team opened its Spring Break trip with an 11-1 loss to Purdue in the Chippewas' first game of the Stetson Invitational at Stetson's Melching Field.
The Chippewas (2-6-1) are scheduled to play the host Hatters on Saturday (7 p.m.) and will close the invitational on Sunday (7 p.m.) against Virginia Tech.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Purdue (7-1) led, 2-1, and then scored five runs in the seventh inning and four in the eighth to blow the game open.
THE HITTING
The Chippewas managed just four hits, all singles, against four Boilermaker pitchers. Nick Dalesandro had three hits and Jacson McGowan homered for Purdue, which collected 13 hits.
THE PITCHING
Purdue starter Gareth Stroh (2-0) earned the win. He allowed one run on one hit, walked five and struck out two over six innings.
CMU starter Michael Brettell (1-2) went 6 1/3 innings in taking the loss. He surrendered four runs on nine hits, walked two and struck out five. Jake Raether, Jack Collins, Logan Buczkowski and Cameron Miller worked in relief for the Chippewas.
