Chippewas Drop 2 in Florida

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Central Michigan softball team collected 16 hits, but dropped two opening the South Florida Under Armour Showcase on Friday.
The Chippewas (7-10) fell to Saint Joseph's, 5-4, in nine innings and Chattanooga, 6-3. CMU will look to bounce back against Villanova (11:15 a.m.) and Lehigh (4:15 p.m.) on Saturday.
GAME 1
Hanna Warren (2-4) took the loss. Warren allowed five runs on 10 hits while striking out five over 8 2/3 innings.
It was back and forth extra innings, but the Hawks were able to score two on a Raelynn Genovese triple to lace up their win in the ninth inning.
Shaiden Knapp and Erika Underwood each tallied two hits for CMU.
GAME 2
Lacy Tolfree singled to center field in the fifth inning to score Perlberg and Aliena Magiera added another run that inning, but it wasn't enough to gain the lead. The Mocs added three insurance runs in the sixth inning.
Losing pitcher Taylor Weaver (0-3) allowed 10 hits and five runs. She was relieved by Laura Vaccaro for the final inning, who allowed one hit and one run.
Tolfree and Sara Hanseon finished with two hits apiece for the Chippewas.
