Chippewas Drop Series Opener At Western

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Western Michigan scored seven runs it final three times at-bat on Friday in handing the Central Michigan baseball team an 8-2 loss in a Mid-American baseball game at Hyames Field at Robert J. Bobb Stadium.
The series is scheduled to continue on Saturday (1 p.m.) and will conclude on Sunday (1 p.m.). The Chippewas are 13-22-1, 7-6 MAC; Western is 15-16, 5-6
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Broncos scored three runs in the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie, and then added two runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth.
Ethan Hajdukovic highlighted the sixth with an RBI double. Jesse Forestell had a two-run single in the seventh.
CMU committed three errors in the game and just three of the Bronco runs were earned.
AT THE PLATE
The Chippewas out hit Western, 11-6. The Chippewas stranded 11 base runners, and left the bases loaded in the eighth.
Griffin Lockwood-Powell led the Chippewas with three hits, while Jason Sullivan, Zach Heeke and Zach Gilles each had two.
ON THE MOUND
CMU starter Pat Leatherman (2-5) allowed four runs, two of them earned, on four hits, struck out seven and walked two over 5 2/3 innings in taking the loss.
Brandon Reed, Logan Buczkowski and Cam Miller each pitched in relief for CMU.
Andrew Reisinger (7-0), who relieved Western starter Nic Laio with two on and none out in the sixth inning, earned the win. He allowed one run on three hits and struck out three over three innings.
