
Chippewas Fall To Michigan

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Michigan collected 12 hits including five for extra bases and Central Michigan committed three errors on Tuesday as the Wolverines handed CMU a 9-2 nonconference baseball loss at Keilitz Field at Theunissen Stadium.
CMU (20-26-1) plays host to Cleary on Wednesday (4:05 p.m.) in another nonleague game and then opens a three-game Mid-American Conference series at Miami (Ohio) on Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Michigan broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the second inning. Jordan Nwogu led off with a triple and scored on a Christian Bullock single. Bullock stole second, moved to third on an error, and scored on a groundout.
The Wolverines (30-14) added two runs in the fifth, one in the seventh and three in the ninth.
Just five of Michigan's nine runs were earned.
ON THE MOUND
Dazon Cole (1-6) started for the Chippewas and took the loss. He allowed five runs on seven hits, walked four, and struck out four. Zach Kohn went the final three innings, allowing four runs on five hits. He walked three and struck out two.
Angelo Smith (1-0), the second of three Michigan pitchers, picked up the victory. He allowed three hits over four innings, walked one and struck out two.
AT THE PLATE
The Chippewas collected seven hits, three of which came off the bat of Daniel Robinson. One of Robinson's hits was an RBI double in the first inning. Jacob Crum also doubled. David Cole had an RBI single in the ninth for the Chippewas.
CMU'S Zach Heeke was hit by a pitch twice in the game, raising his MAC-leading total to 20 on the season.
RED HOT
Robinson, a junior, had his second consecutive three-hit game and extended his hit streak to nine games, which ties for the season high for a Chippewa. Robinson is hitting .451 (14 for 31) with 10 RBI over the nine-game stretch.
