Chippewas Picked To Finish 5th In West

DETROIT – The Central Michigan football team was picked to finish fifth in the Mid-American Conference West Division in the Preseason Media Poll.

The Chippewas received 58 points and no first-place votes. Northern Illinois, with 133 points and 15 first-place votes, top the MAC West poll, while Ohio, with 21 first-place votes and 140 points, topped the MAC East poll.

Following NIU in the West were Toledo, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, the Chippewas and Ball State. Toledo received six first-place votes and Western Michigan received one.

Buffalo, with one first-place vote and 112 points, finished second in the East poll followed by Miami (Ohio), Akron, Bowling Green and Kent State. Miami finished with two first-place votes.

Ohio was picked on 13 ballots to win the Marathon MAC Championship Game, followed by Toledo (5), NIU (4), Miami (1) and the Chippewas (1).

The Chippewas open the 2018 season at Kentucky on Saturday, Sept. 1, and entertain Kansas in their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 8. The Chippewas' MAC opener is slated for Saturday, Sept. 15, at Northern Illinois.
